About Me
Skills & Experience
• My specialist experience working with young people with SEN to develop trusting and meaningful relationships:
I have over 18 years of experience working with young people with a wide range of special educational needs. I take a relationship-first approach, working hard to build trust, safety, and consistency. By understanding each learner’s individual needs, preferences, and communication style, I create a space where they feel seen, heard, and understood, which is key to unlocking engagement and progress.
• My experience working with young people with ADHD:
I have supported many learners with ADHD and understand how it can affect focus, regulation, organisation, and self-esteem. I tailor my sessions to include movement breaks, visual supports, and a clear but flexible structure. I also help learners develop executive functioning skills in a way that feels manageable and personalised, always aiming to reduce overwhelm and support success.
• My experience working with young people with Dyslexia:
I use multi-sensory teaching approaches to support learners with dyslexia, breaking down literacy tasks into small, achievable steps. I incorporate strategies such as colour coding, scaffolding, repetition, and alternative ways to record learning. Most importantly, I focus on boosting confidence and helping learners develop strategies that work for them.
• My experience working with young people with Dyspraxia:
I have supported many learners with Dyspraxia, including developing their fine and gross motor skills, supporting organisation and sequencing tasks, and helping them gain confidence in everyday activities. I create practical, hands-on sessions and build in time for movement and regulation to help with focus and coordination.
• My experience working with young people with Dyscalculia:
I adapt numeracy teaching using concrete materials, visual models, and real-life examples. My goal is to build number sense and reduce maths anxiety through games, practical activities, and personalised strategies. I celebrate effort and progress, no matter how small, to help build a positive relationship with maths.
• My experience working with young people with Sensory and/or auditory processing needs:
I currently work in a specialist setting where all learners experience some level of sensory and/or auditory processing difficulty. I am highly experienced in recognising sensory seeking and avoiding behaviours and in adapting environments, routines, and teaching approaches to support individual sensory profiles. I regularly implement sensory diets, build movement breaks into lessons, and use visual supports to reduce overload and support regulation.
• My experience teaching Secondary English including GCSEs:
I have taught Secondary English in a range of settings, including preparing learners for their GCSEs. I adapt content to suit individual learning styles, using visuals, simplified explanations, and real-life examples to bring abstract ideas to life. I aim to build understanding and confidence at a pace that feels right for each learner.
• My experience teaching Study Skills and Executive Functioning:
I teach practical strategies to support memory, organisation, time management, and task initiation. I break tasks into clear steps and use tools such as visual schedules, checklists, timers, and cue cards to help learners become more independent in their thinking and planning. I also explore which strategies work best for the individual so they can carry these skills into everyday life.
• My experience teaching Community Support and Outside activities:
As a Careers and Community Inclusion Lead, I regularly support learners in community settings and deliver sessions outdoors to promote independence, confidence, and real-world learning. I believe learning shouldn’t be confined to the classroom, I love using the outdoors and community-based tasks to support personal development, life skills, and social communication.
• My experience working with young people to boost their confidence and self-esteem:
I take a strengths-based approach and always seek opportunities to celebrate success, however small. I use humour, creativity, and positive reinforcement to help young people recognise their progress and feel proud of themselves. My sessions are designed to help learners see that they can, helping them build resilience and a positive sense of self.
• My specialist experience providing engaging sessions to inspire a love of learning:
Fun is at the heart of everything I do! I love creating exciting, personalised sessions that hook into learners’ interests and learning styles. I use music, art, games, movement, and storytelling to keep sessions lively and engaging. I believe that when children are enjoying themselves, meaningful learning naturally follows.
• My skills and experience supporting young people to develop their independence:
I support young people to develop the skills they need to navigate daily life with confidence, from organising schoolwork to travelling safely and building communication skills. I use gradual steps, visual supports, and lots of encouragement to help learners take ownership of their progress and feel capable in new situations.

My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that all children should have access to education that inspires and empowers them to flourish. I enjoy teaching face-to-face, allowing me to interact, play, and build meaningful relationships with children and their families. When working with children with complex needs, I focus on understanding the whole child to provide the best possible support. I celebrate every tiny success and break down targets into realistic steps, working hand in hand with parents every step of the way. With experience in a wide range of interventions, I am used to employing multiple approaches to achieve positive outcomes. Teaching in a special needs school allows me to embrace creativity, designing unique strategies to achieve meaningful results for each learner.
